Chapter 9: Not Allowed to Go

"Ning Anmiao" refused too bluntly. Not only was Jiang Qiwei taken aback, but Mrs. Lu was also stunned.

"Miaomiao, Weiwei means well. Don't be so ungrateful," Mrs. Lu couldn't help it anymore. Her voice turned cold. "The Jiang family has been our Lu family's good friend for many years. You should know your place."

Here she was again, saying that she didn't know her place.

In this family, who was the real Mrs. Lu after all?

"Ning Anmiao" glanced at Mrs. Lu. Her eyes showed a disappointment that the real Ning Anmiao had never shown before. "Mom, I just said that I don't need to go to the hospital."

"However, Weiwei is right. It is indeed a bit serious. I'll go back with Lu Yan first."

As soon as the words were out, without caring whether the wound was properly bandaged or even looking at Mrs. Lu again, she took off running.

She didn't want to stay in this family for a single extra minute.

Mrs. Lu was immediately annoyed that Ning Anmiao had given her the cold shoulder directly. She was about to open her mouth to call her back when she saw that Ning Anmiao was walking so fast.

"Hey, the wound hasn't been fully bandaged yet..." Seeing that the person was about to run away, "Lu Yan" immediately panicked and quickly followed.

She had just disinfected the wound!

...

Back in the car, Ning Anmiao continued to bandage Lu Yan's wound while rolling her eyes involuntarily. "Can't you even bear this level of pain?"

"They've gone too far," Lu Yan said, pursing his lips. His face had been cold from just now until now.

Ning Anmiao looked up at him but didn't continue to tease him. She just lowered her head to bandage his wound.

After the wound was treated, she leisurely asked, "See clearly?"

Lu Yan lowered his eyes. He felt an indescribable sense of guilt in his heart.

"Sorry," was all he could say feebly after much thought.

"I always thought that although you had fallen out with your family, you at least lived a stable life in the Lu family," he said. Even he thought this statement was ironic.

Stable?

Only now did he know how much grievance his wife, Ning Anmiao, had suffered over the years!

Hearing his guilty tone, Ning Anmiao lowered her eyes and took a deep breath.

"I thought I could handle it well, Lu Yan," she said.

Seeing his cold expression, she put away her joking attitude. After a pause in her tone, her gaze shifted from his injured hand to his face.

At this moment, she began to seriously look at this face that belonged to her.

This feeling of as if talking to herself was very strange.

However, because the soul inside had changed, the look in the eyes of this body was different. If you observed carefully, you could tell that this wasn't Ning Anmiao.

It was Lu Yan.

"I haven't been happy in these three years," Ning Anmiao thought for a moment and for the first time told Lu Yan what was on her mind.

Hearing this, Lu Yan's pupils constricted sharply.

"I always thought that you at least loved me a little," Ning Anmiao said with a faint smile. Her tone gradually became solemn. "At least it wasn't out of pity or sympathy that you had to marry me."

Lu Yan knew that she was referring to the incident when she had insisted on marrying him and was subsequently kicked out of the Ning family and cut off from the family.

"If your kindness to me is because you think you've let me down and want to make up for me, then I don't need this kind of kindness," she said calmly. "You don't need to feel guilty either. I've figured it out during this period."

"From now on, I won't call myself Mrs. Lu anymore," she let out a long breath. "Once we find a way to swap back our bodies, we'll get a divorce."

She was serious.

From the moment she impulsively spoke up because Lu Yan didn't want to have a child to the days of getting along recently, she increasingly felt that this marriage was meaningless.

Being submissive in front of someone who didn't love you was actually a very humble thing.

Lu Yan moved his pale lips. His chest felt stuffy. He wanted to explain something but in the end, he said nothing.

What else could he say?

What the people around had done to Ning Anmiao in these three years made him have no face to face her!

Say that he also loved her?

If he loved her, then why hadn't he been able to protect her well and let her be bullied by his mother and laughed at by others?

He was speechless.

--

After they got back, Ning Anmiao found that the atmosphere between them was very oppressive. Lu Yan looked very solemn. She felt a bit sorry for him and took the initiative to start a conversation.

"We're just sitting around. Why don't you tell me something about Jiang Qiwei?"

Ning Anmiao curved her lips. "I think your mom is determined to match you two up. I'll just find out the situation first."

Hearing this, Lu Yan was silent for a while. His chest felt sour and stuffy.

He knew that Ning Anmiao really didn't care about him anymore.

Because she didn't care, she was so calm.

"Years ago, the Jiang family and the Lu family were very close. They even considered an alliance through marriage," he squinted his eyes as if recalling. "Back then, the Lu family had a major reshuffle. After the reorganization, the Lu family was no match for the Jiang family. An alliance through marriage wouldn't bring much benefit to the Jiang family."

Lu Yan casually mentioned it and didn't plan to explain to Ning Anmiao why the now powerful Lu family had once faced a reshuffle.

That was already in the past.

Ning Anmiao nodded and summarized, "Simply put, the Jiang family didn't take a fancy to the Lu family back then, and Jiang Qiwei didn't take a fancy to you either."

"You can understand it that way," Lu Yan wasn't angry because of her words.

Lu Yan didn't have a bad impression of Jiang Qiwei, but if she joined hands with his mother to target Ning Anmiao, then it would be a different story.

After listening, Ning Anmiao propped her chin and thought for a while. Suddenly, she said, "Since we've been husband and wife, I'll do one last good deed for you before the divorce."

"I'll help you chase Jiang Qiwei."

Lu Yan suddenly looked up and stared at Ning Anmiao. There was a hint of intimidation in his eyes, and his aura obviously darkened.

"Ning Anmiao, after knowing you for so many years, this is the first time I've found that you're so 'helpful'," Lu Yan almost squeezed the words "helpful" out between his teeth. He stared at her gritted his teeth.

"The divorce hasn't happened yet. You don't need to be so enthusiastic about finding me a new partner."

His voice was as cold as ever, even with a hint of chill that he had never shown before. He turned around and walked away, leaving Ning Anmiao standing there.

Ning Anmiao looked blank.

It was he who didn't love her, he who didn't want to have a child with her, and he who had agreed to the divorce. Why was he so angry?

It was really inexplicable!

--

For some reason, since the day Ning Anmiao said she would help Lu Yan chase Jiang Qiwei, Lu Yan had become more and more silent.

Originally, Ning Anmiao was just joking and didn't take it seriously. But unexpectedly, a few days later, Jiang Qiwei actually called.

"Lu Yan, are you busy recently?"

Jiang Qiwei's voice was very nice, soft and delicate. "I'm going to hold my first fashion design exhibition in Baicheng this weekend since I returned to China. Would Mr. Lu be kind enough to attend?"

The tone of her voice came through the receiver with a smile. Her roundabout way of speaking was very pleasant to listen to, making it hard to refuse.

Before Ning Anmiao could answer, Lu Yan frowned and mouthed to her.

"You're not allowed to go."
