Chapter 33: The Return of an Old Acquaintance

Just as Gu Nianci left, the young servant attending to Wang Jingze carried a pipa into the Changyin Pavilion.

"Miss Lin, when the young master went out, he ordered this servant to bring your pipa here."

The young servant stood respectfully at the door and reported truthfully.

Ling'er opened the door and curtsied. "The young lady is unwell and has just gone to rest. You can give the pipa to me. Please trouble Young Master Tianqing to thank the young master for our young lady."

The young servant responded, carefully handed the pipa to Ling'er, and then turned to leave.

Ling'er looked down at the pipa in her arms, her eyes full of admiration.

After looking at it for a while, she carefully carried it into the room and found a proper place to put it.

Lin Wanyu's injuries were not fully healed yet. She had taken the medicine in the morning, and now, perhaps the medicine was taking effect, and she felt a bit drowsy.

This nap was not peaceful. Nightmares came one after another.

The fierce old woman, the beaten Feng Yunyun... One ferocious face after another was like an airtight net covering Lin Wanyu.

When she woke up, it was getting a bit dark. The room was quiet, without a sound.

She sat stupidly on the couch for a while. Then there was some noise outside.

A moment later, Ling'er opened the door and entered the bedroom. When she saw Lin Wanyu awake, she let out a long sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness you're awake, young lady. You really scared this servant."

As she spoke, she helped Lin Wanyu change clothes. "This servant just happened to invite the doctor. Let the doctor take a look at you later."

Lin Wanyu got up holding Ling'er's hand, feeling warm in her heart.

"We're not related, yet you take such good care of me. I don't know how to thank you."

Ling'er smiled and helped her sit in front of the dressing table. "It was the eldest young master who ordered this servant to attend to you. The eldest young master told this servant to take good care of you. If you want to thank someone, thank the eldest young master."

Hearing her words, Lin Wanyu suddenly pictured Wang Jingze in her mind.

A gentle and elegant young master, indeed a thoughtful person.

After the doctor finished the diagnosis and told Lin Wanyu to rest well, he left.

Ling'er came back after seeing the doctor off. She cheerfully picked up Lin Wanyu's pipa from the table beside and showed it to her like a treasure.

"Your pipa, young lady."

Looking at the familiar pipa case in front of her, Lin Wanyu suddenly felt as if she had passed through time.

It was made of brocade. She had saved up money for a long time before she could afford such a piece of cloth. But after coming to the capital, she learned that this kind of material was just inferior in the eyes of the nobles.

She took the pipa, opened the case, carefully checked it, and then plucked the strings a few times.

Ling'er stood there quietly, looking at her with envy on her face. She thought she could listen to a pipa piece, but unexpectedly, Lin Wanyu just plucked a few times and put the pipa away.

"Aren't you going to play a piece to test the strings, young lady?"

Lin Wanyu carefully placed the pipa aside and said gently, "It's getting late at night. It wouldn't be good to disturb the masters."

Ling'er nodded disappointedly. "Then let this servant serve you for dinner!"

Lin Wanyu noticed her mood. After Ling'er left, her eyes slowly fell on the pipa in front of her.

When she left, she would surely play a piece to thank Wang Jingze and Ling'er properly.

For now, it was better for her not to be too showy.

Early the next morning, Lin Wanyu took Ling'er out of the mansion. Ling'er was carrying the silver that Nanny Li had given her yesterday and was smiling like a little fool.

"This servant has never seen so much money before."

Lin Wanyu shook her head with a smile and led her straight out of the mansion.

First, they strolled around. Then they found several shops and bought the ingredients for making various pastries. It wasn't until the long street was full of people that Lin Wanyu sent Ling'er to buy other things. Taking advantage of the chaos, she turned into a side alley and got rid of the person following her.

After winding around for a while, she entered the post station she had scouted in advance, sent a letter, and paid extra silver to have it sent urgently.

After leaving the post station, she covered her lips and nose with a handkerchief and walked to the side with her head down.

Unexpectedly, as she was walking, a man came out of a side alley, and Lin Wanyu bumped right into his arms.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry."

Not wanting to cause any trouble, Lin Wanyu apologized and was about to leave in a hurry.

The next moment, however, she was grabbed by the wrist, and a man's voice sounded beside her.

"Lin Wanyu!"

Lin Wanyu's heart suddenly skipped a beat. She looked up at the man in front of her in a panic. It wasn't until the man's face gradually became clear that her hanging heart slowly settled.

"Why is it you?"

The man hooked his lips and smiled recklessly. "Why can't it be me?"

Lin Wanyu lowered her eyes to the hand that was holding her wrist. The man realized it later and let go of her hand, but the smile on his face remained undiminished.

"I was just about to ask why you're here."

Lin Wanyu gave a bitter smile and shook her head. "It's a long story. Let's not talk about it."

The man raised his eyebrows slightly. "Since we've met by chance, how about I make up for the meal I owe you today?"

Lin Wanyu looked up at him. Suddenly, a plan came to her mind. "How about you do something for me? Whether it succeeds or not, the debt you owe me will be written off. What do you think?"

She had been good at swimming since childhood. In Yangzhou that day, she had saved a young master who had fallen into the lake, and this was the very man in front of her.

After that, this young master would go to listen to her music every day, and the rewards he gave her were getting higher and higher.

Lin Wanyu had advised him before, but unexpectedly, this master waved his hand and said that he was the son of a wealthy family. His family lacked everything but money.

A month ago, he said he had something to do and left Yangzhou in a hurry. He didn't say when he would return or where he was going. He only said that he would pay back what he owed her.

It was really a surprise for Lin Wanyu to see him here.

Hearing this, the man immediately became interested. "Just tell me. Let me hear what this thing is."

Lin Wanyu looked around, led him into a side alley, and whispered her plan to him.

Anyway, even if she hadn't met him today, Lin Wanyu would have hired someone to do this. Finding him was the same risk as hiring someone else.

So she didn't hide anything.

"Well? If you think it's not appropriate, I'll find someone else."

The man leaned against the wall, folded his arms, and looked at her leisurely. "Since you trust me so much, I will surely help you get this done."

Lin Wanyu curtsied. "Then Wanyu thanks the young master here."

"So you're in the prime minister's mansion now?"

The man hooked his lips, and his ink - colored eyes quietly fell on the person in front of him. "The injury on your forehead was also caused by someone in the prime minister's mansion?"

Hearing this, Lin Wanyu unconsciously stroked her forehead and gave a bitter smile. "No, I accidentally bumped into something."

The man understood, but he didn't say much. "Don't worry. I will definitely get this done for you."

"Thank you."

"Then can you go and have a meal with me now?"

Lin Wanyu gave a charming smile. "After I get through this difficult time, I will surely invite the young master to have a good meal. Wanyu will take her leave first!"

After watching Lin Wanyu leave, the man took out a letter, rubbed it in his palm, and raised his eyebrows with a smile. "Well, I saved the silver for sending a letter."
