Chapter 68: A Blockhead

"Yes, I have video evidence. It was captured by the surveillance camera at my door." Gu Yuwei straightened her back, took out her phone from her pocket, and immediately played the video for Grandpa Xia.

In the video, Xia Ruolin looked around furtively for a while before knocking on the door in front of her. It was Gu Yuwei who opened the door. Then the door closed, and Xia Ruolin entered the house.

Xia Ruolin stared at Gu Yuwei with wide eyes, regretting that she hadn't checked carefully at that time.

"Grandpa, this woman is mentally ill. I took pity on her and went to help her. I never thought she was so crazy about money that she's now biting the hand that feeds her and trying to extort money from me."

Xia Ruolin's mind raced, and she immediately said, "Brother Beichen, Grandpa, you must believe me. This must be a well - planned scheme to frame me."

As she said this, Xia Ruolin looked meaningfully at Xia Weilan.

"Grandpa, look. Just now this woman was acting crazy, and now she's not pretending anymore. There are clearly loopholes." Xia Ruolin looked pleadingly at Grandpa Xia, who was silent but imposing. Her eyes flashed with eagerness and indignation, looking like a poor little white rabbit.

Grandpa Xia's previously hardened heart wavered a bit:

"I'll investigate this matter clearly."

"I actually have a better idea," Mo Beichen suddenly said.

Xia Ruolin looked at Mo Beichen, and a flicker of panic flashed in her eyes. She subconsciously swallowed.

"What idea?" Grandpa Xia asked in a deep voice.

Just then, there were suddenly a few barks at the door. Then a police officer was dragged in by a dog.

"Ah... Get away! Don't come near me." Xia Ruolin was startled by the suddenly charging dog and quickly jumped onto a chair. She looked extremely embarrassed.

"Miss Xia, don't be afraid. This dog traced the smell of the hostage. It's just for identification and won't bite," the police officer quickly explained.

"Woof, woof..." The hound circled around Xia Ruolin a few times. Then, as if it had discovered something, it rushed directly towards the garden.

"It seems that we'll soon find the hostage," Mo Beichen said meaningfully as he looked out the door and stepped out.

"Let's go. Miss Xia wants to prove her innocence. Just go and take a look, and the result will be clear."

The people in the hall all stepped out. Xia Ruolin looked like she was about to cry, but she could only follow them. She walked at the back and secretly sent a message.

The hound passed through the garden and ran out of the backyard. Finally, it sniffed at the door of the abandoned warehouse in the Xia Mansion and barked again.

The police officer pushed open the door, and the hound excitedly rushed in.

"Grandpa, this..." Xia Ruolin didn't expect that stupid dog would really find this place. Fortunately, she had just sent a message to Jin Mao to transfer the hostage. So at this moment, she pretended to be surprised and said:

"Isn't this our unused old warehouse?"

Grandpa Xia glanced at Xia Ruolin, then calmly stepped in.

Gu Yuwei nervously held Xia Weilan's arm and whispered, "My younger brother won't be in danger, will he?"

"It's okay. Let's go in together." After Xia Weilan said this, she stepped in.

Suddenly, there came the wild barking of the hound from inside. Everyone quickened their pace. When they saw the situation inside, the police officer had already rescued the hostage.

Gu Yunuo pointed at the unconscious Jin Mao on the ground and said indignantly:

"Comrade police officer, it was this man who kidnapped me. He fainted right after finishing his meal. Please arrest him quickly."

Gu Yunuo looked haggard, and his clothes were in tatters. It was obvious that he had been locked up for several days.

"Brother!" Gu Yuwei immediately rushed over and hugged him.

"Sister, I knew you would come to save me." Although Gu Yunuo looked in a sorry state, his expression was firm.

Xia Ruolin hid behind the door and didn't dare to step in. Her former calmness had completely disappeared, and she could no longer find her previous composure.

"Ah..." The young man suddenly saw Xia Ruolin and excitedly shouted, "It's her! That woman is an accomplice! Quick, arrest her!"

Xia Ruolin stumbled and fled in a hurry.

Grandpa Xia followed the gaze and only saw a flash of Xia Ruolin's clothes. A surge of anger suddenly welled up in his chest. "Cough, cough, cough... This evil girl!"

Grandpa Xia coughed violently, and his voice suddenly became hoarse.

"Grandpa..." Xia Weilan quickly ran over with concern.

Grandpa Xia stared with wide eyes in the direction of the door. The veins on his face bulged. He closed his eyes and suddenly fainted.

For a moment, there were successive exclamations from everyone in the abandoned warehouse.

Mo Beichen reacted extremely quickly and sent Grandpa Xia to the car, rushing him to the hospital.

Xia Weilan was also extremely worried. She only had time to tell Gu Yuwei to cooperate with the police investigation before following Mo Beichen.

At the hospital, the waiting medical staff immediately sent Grandpa Xia into the emergency room. Fortunately, it wasn't too serious. Soon the doctor instructed, "The patient suffered from a rush of anger and needs to rest and recuperate for a while."

"Thank you, doctor." Xia Weilan let out a sigh of relief. Only then did she remember that Gu Yuwei was still alone at the police station.

"Don't worry. I sent Xu Wei to the police station early on. He'll handle it well," Mo Beichen saw her worry and comforted her.

Xia Weilan then sighed and felt a bit grateful. "Thank you."

Not long after, Grandpa Xia woke up in the ward. His face was a bit pale, as if he had suddenly aged several years.

"Cough, cough, cough... I've long seen that this evil girl has a bad heart. I never thought, I never thought she'd be so cruel... Cough, again and again..." As soon as Grandpa Xia woke up, he started scolding.

Xia Weilan quickly patted Grandpa Xia on the back to help him calm down. "Grandpa, calm down first. Your health is the most important."

Grandpa Xia then stopped scolding, but he still looked extremely angry. He then looked at Xia Weilan, and suddenly a sense of guilt welled up in his heart.

"Girl, tell Grandpa. Did that evil girl do anything to you? How did she frame you?"

Grandpa Xia looked kind and pitying. "I didn't take good care of you. When I brought you back, I thought I could give you a support, but I never thought you'd suffer so much."

"Grandpa," Mo Beichen walked in and continued:

"You've already entrusted Weilan to me. I'll take good care of her. You can rest assured." Mo Beichen rarely said so many words.

"Good," Grandpa Xia felt a bit relieved. "You've finally come to your senses."

Mo Beichen stood upright like a statue, returning to his usual cold self, as if the vows he had just said weren't from his mouth.

"A blockhead," Grandpa Xia couldn't help but say.
