Chapter Twenty-Four: I’ll Protect You

After a cry for help came from the receiver, the call was cut off.

Nan Yu didn't want to meddle in other people's business at first, but she was worried that something really had happened. Thinking of those black - suited bodyguards outside the temple, she had no choice but to hurry towards the backyard.

She just wanted to take a look. If there was any danger, at least she could call the police.

In the backyard of Changuang Temple, there were mostly the meditation rooms of the monks. Usually, the monks cultivated themselves and lived here.

However, Tan Linyuan's room was more secluded. One had to walk through a small stone path in the bamboo forest and turn two corners to get there.

Nan Yu walked faster and faster. When she passed through the bamboo forest and saw the house at the end of the path, she stopped.

It was not for any other reason but that Qu Jiaran was running towards her.

Qu Jiaran spotted Nan Yu at first sight. Her eyes lit up and she immediately ran over excitedly and hugged Nan Yu.

Nan Yu frowned slightly and instinctively felt a bit resistant.

Qu Jiaran let go of her and said with a surprised look on her face, "You really came! Linyuan's meditation room is so out - of - the - way. I was worried that without someone to lead the way, you wouldn't be able to find me, Nan Yu."

Nan Yu paused for two seconds. Then she looked at Tan Linyuan standing beside them with a poker - face and realized that she had been tricked.

Qu Jiaran was actually perfectly fine.

"If Miss Qu is okay, I'll leave first." She felt inexplicably irritated and turned around to go back the way she came.

"Nan Yu, I didn't mean to play a trick on you. I really need you to save my life."

Qu Jiaran grabbed her hand and pleaded, "Good Nan Yu, please help me plead. I want to go into Linyuan's meditation room to take a look, but he won't let me in."

She said seriously, "If I can't get into Linyuan's meditation room today, I'll die here."

Although she was saying something serious, Qu Jiaran's eyes were curved.

Her eyes were shy and she stared intently at Tan Linyuan. It was the kind of look that only someone in love would show.

... It turned out that she had been called here to watch them flirt.

Nan Yu felt out of place.

Tan Linyuan's eyes were calm and his tone was also very peaceful. "The meditation room is a pure and clean place in Buddhism. No pilgrims are allowed to enter."

His tone was gentle, not harsh, but his words already showed his non - negotiability.

Qu Jiaran's eyebrows drooped and she chose to compromise. "Okay, I still wanted to see what kind of environment you usually rest in so that I could know you better."

Nan Yu had no mood to stay any longer originally, but when she heard Tan Linyuan's words, she couldn't help but look up at him.

No pilgrims were allowed in the meditation room. Then what did it mean when he had locked her in the meditation room for several hours and punished her to copy Buddhist scriptures before?

Suddenly, she couldn't guess the answer.

But this answer didn't matter to her either. Nan Yu didn't plan to ask him the reason. She just wanted to leave right away. "You two talk. I still have something to do. I'll go back first."

Insignificant people and insignificant things. She didn't want to waste a single bit of time on them.

But Qu Jiaran happily hooked her arm and said cheerfully, "Since you're already here, Nan Yu, come and have a meal with me and Linyuan."

"I'm not hungry." She refused bluntly. "Besides, I have other things to do. Miss Qu, don't make things difficult for me."

At this point, any adult could hear her resistance.

Qu Jiaran didn't force her anymore. She curved her lips and let go of her arm. "If that's the case, then we'll make an appointment next time."

There would definitely not be a next time, Nan Yu thought.

Nan Yu said goodbye to the two of them and turned around to walk out of this quiet bamboo forest to give the two of them some private space.

But as soon as she turned around, she saw a yellow - and - white shadow leap down from the eaves.

When she saw what it was, her body trembled instantly.

A fat but agile orange cat had run out from somewhere. Its amber pupils were staring at Nan Yu.

At this moment, the human and the cat were just staring at each other.

"Hey, Yuyu, long time no see!"

Qu Jiaran behind her greeted the orange cat naturally. "Are you here to find your dad again?"

Her tone was playful and she told Nan Yu the origin of the cat. "This orange cat was picked up by Linyuan in a snowdrift in winter. He was afraid that it couldn't adapt to being a stray, so he specially adopted it in Changuang Temple."

Nan Yu had no intention of listening. All her attention was now focused on the cat.

Qu Jiaran didn't notice anything strange about Nan Yu at all. She laughed. "It's obviously a cat, but Linyuan named it Yuyu. Isn't it interesting?"

Nan Yu didn't find it interesting at all.

She wasn't curious at all about why this fat cat had the same name as her nickname. She only had one thought, which was to hope that this cat would stay away from her.

Nan Yu was afraid of cats.

It was a kind of fear that was engraved in her genes and deep in her bones.

Nan Yu instinctively took a few steps back, trying to get out of the cat's surveillance range. But unexpectedly, this orange cat seemed to think she was easy to bully and suddenly ran towards her.

"Don't..." She finally couldn't control her inner fear and cried out.

Tan Linyuan lowered his eyes and noticed her pale face. There was a look of contemplation in his eyes.

Before he could stop the cat, Qu Jiaran grabbed Nan Yu and pulled her behind herself. She shouted loudly, "Nan Yu, don't be afraid. I'll protect you!"

Nan Yu: ...

She was a bit touched at first, but suddenly hearing such a sentence made it seem a bit funny.

Qu Jiaran looked as if she was going to sacrifice herself. She bent down and hugged the orange cat directly. "Yuyu, don't scare—ah!"

She suddenly let out a scream and immediately let go of her hand.

The orange cat in her arms also jumped down. Knowing that it had caused trouble, it quickly slipped into the bamboo forest and disappeared in a few seconds.

It was really fast.

While Nan Yu was sighing in her heart about how agile the cat was, she shifted her gaze to Qu Jiaran's hand.

There was a deep scratch on the back of her hand, and big drops of blood were dripping down along her fingers.

Qu Jiaran's face suddenly turned pale. Her arm trembled constantly. Her eyes looked at Tan Linyuan pitifully, and she was about to cry. "Linyuan, will I die..."

"No." After Tan Linyuan answered, he turned around and went back to the meditation room to get some gauze. After simply bandaging her wound, he calmly made a decision. "Yuyu is free - roaming. There may be viruses on its claws. I'll take you to the hospital for an injection now."

He walked over and naturally took Qu Jiaran's other hand.

Because of this sudden intimate contact, her cheeks blushed and she shyly lowered her head. "Okay, I'll listen to you, Linyuan."

Nan Yu stood aside watching coldly.

Humph.

Sure enough, she was just a part of their play.

According to Nan Yu's original intention, she didn't plan to go with them. But since Qu Jiaran was scratched by the cat while "protecting her", her conscience bothered her, so she had no choice but to go to the hospital with them.

The two walked in front, and Nan Yu followed slowly behind.

She also noticed that originally it was Tan Linyuan holding Qu Jiaran's hand, but now it was Qu Jiaran who was holding his hand actively.
