Chapter 6 The Detestable Maid

Gurgle~

At this moment, her little tummy let out a very timely growl.

It seemed to be urging its owner to hurry up and eat, for it was starving.

Yu Niannian stroked her belly, her little face scrunched up.

The look of distress and resentment on her face was extremely amusing.

She let out a long sigh like a little adult.

Running away was of no use.

No matter how much she didn't want to face the big bad second brother, she had to get out of bed and go downstairs for breakfast.

She slowly got dressed, scrambled out of bed on all fours, slipped on her slippers, and trotted downstairs.

When she saw Yu Sheng and Zhao Tang sitting at the table, eating breakfast leisurely, her small body couldn't help but shrink.

Like a wronged little daughter - in - law, she tiptoed over to the table and struggled to climb onto the stool.

But when she saw the food on the plate in front of her and the knife and fork on either side, Yu Niannian was stunned.

In the Taoist temple on the mountain, her breakfast had always been steamed buns or congee with pickles.

The utensils she used were always chopsticks and spoons.

This Western - style meal and the knife and fork beside it were completely unfamiliar to her.

She stole a couple of glances at Yu Sheng, then picked up the knife like him and tried to cut the food in front of her forcefully.

Creak!

The sound of the knife hitting the plate was extremely harsh.

Yu Sheng frowned, stopped what he was doing, and looked at Yu Niannian with obvious displeasure in his eyes.

This look reminded the little bun of last night's nightmare.

She was so scared that she didn't even dare to eat.

She sat on the stool, at a loss, with tears welling up in her eyes instantly.

"Forget it. Go get her a pair of chopsticks and cut up her meal before bringing it over."

Unexpectedly, Yu Sheng didn't scold Yu Niannian this time, nor did he say anything harsh.

Instead, he even helped her.

Yu Niannian was a bit flattered.

The big bad second brother was so strange!

Yu Sheng's unusual behavior not only caught Yu Niannian's attention but also made Zhao Tang hold her breath.

A sense of crisis welled up in her heart. Taking advantage of no one noticing, she glared at Niannian fiercely.

Niannian felt the full - blown malice.

She sharply noticed Zhao Tang's action and suddenly turned her head, just in time to meet her eyes.

Zhao Tang panicked for a moment but quickly adjusted her emotions.

She wasn't afraid of being exposed at all.

Instead, she tugged at Yu Sheng's sleeve to divert his attention to herself.

When Yu Sheng's eyes met Zhao Tang's slightly nervous look, his cold and rigid expression instantly softened.

It was as if the words "double - standard dog" were written on his face.

He asked softly, "What's wrong, Tangtang?"

"Second brother, I'm full. I should go to school now."

Zhao Tang looked so timid and pitiful.

"Okay, brother will take you."

Yu Sheng was most afraid of her being wronged and showing this kind of expression. Without hesitation, he put down everything in his hands, stopped eating, picked up Zhao Tang, grabbed her little schoolbag, and walked out.

Only Yu Niannian was left sitting pitifully at the table.

As soon as the two had left the door, the maid who had taken the plate to prepare the meal came back.

The maid was a middle - aged woman in her forties. She had an ordinary appearance and was a bit chubby. But the shrewdness in her eyes made Niannian instinctively want to stay away.

However, seeing that the maid had food in her hand, Niannian didn't act.

Her little tummy had protested several times.

All she desired now was that plate of food.

Niannian's eyes sparkled as she looked at the plate, eager to start.

Anybody would like a cute, porcelain - doll - like child.

But this didn't include the sycophantic villain.

With a clatter.

The sound of the plate shattering rang out. The maid dropped the plate on the ground, and the food scattered everywhere.

The maid pretended to be surprised, covered her mouth, and let out a shrill scream, over - exaggerating her shock as she "accidentally" stepped on the food a few times.

She quickly squatted down to pick up the broken pieces while apologizing to Niannian, "Sorry, miss. I didn't mean to. My hand just slipped."

She did it on purpose.

Niannian was absolutely sure. She had clearly seen that the maid, who had been holding the plate steadily, deliberately let go and made it fall to the ground.

She could have jumped backward but instead took two steps forward and stepped on the food.

She was so angry.

The breakfast she had been looking forward to for so long didn't end up in her stomach.

She was so angry that she didn't want to say a word.

But what could she do?

Yu Niannian suddenly remembered an idiom she had heard from her master and senior brothers.

Living under someone else's roof.

Her little head couldn't fully understand the meaning of this idiom, but she was experiencing it now.

"Do you have any more?"

The little bun thought she should be angry, but she didn't dare to be. After all, this wasn't her place, and there were no master or senior brothers to dote on her.

Hearing the soft voice, the maid showed no sign of guilt on her face. She quickly picked up the broken pieces, stood up, and said with a smile, "Sorry, miss. To ensure that the young masters and young ladies have fresh food every day, the amount of each meal is fixed. There's no more breakfast."

"But it's just one breakfast. Skipping it won't do any harm. Lunch is served early at home. Just wait a few more hours, and it will be ready."

The maid spoke without any politeness. If it weren't for the unchanged address, others would have thought she was the employer.

"When will lunch be ready?"

Niannian wiggled her fingers. She was in a bad mood but still asked patiently.

"Lunch is served at exactly 12:10 every day."

Twelve o'clock?!

Yu Niannian's eyes widened.

It was only seven o'clock in the morning. If she had to wait until twelve, she would have to starve for another five hours.

She couldn't accept it, and her tummy couldn't either!

There's nothing more important than eating.

Even though Niannian had a good temper, she was now extremely irritable because of hunger.

She didn't say anything more.

She quickly climbed off the stool.

Niannian was very sensitive to others' emotions. She could clearly feel the maid's malice towards her.

The maid did it on purpose. She wouldn't give her anything to eat!

Realizing this, Niannian didn't intend to talk to this detestable maid anymore.

She would rely on herself!

After all, when she was in the Taoist temple, she would sometimes secretly go to the back mountain to pick wild fruits and catch wild chickens as snacks.

She was capable of filling her stomach. She wouldn't starve to death!

Yu Niannian stomped upstairs angrily, grabbed the small backpack she had brought from the mountain beside her bed, and stomped downstairs again.

She walked straight to the door, jumped up, grabbed the doorknob, opened the door, and left the villa.

The maid just watched from the side. When the little bun rushed out of the house, she just curled her lips, showing disdain and mockery on her face.

She didn't even get up from the sofa.

She hummed a tune, turned on the TV, and happily watched her soap opera.

As for the little bun Niannian, she strode out of the villa compound and walked quickly in one direction.

That direction was the entrance and exit of the community.

Not long after she left, two people emerged from the dark corner, sneaky, and followed her at a certain distance.
