Chapter 217: Discovery

Xin Zizhao got out of bed again and sat down at the desk. He picked up the writing brush beside him and carefully wrote a line of words on the paper. He called Xin Shang over and asked for a white pigeon. He stuffed the note into a bamboo tube and tied it to the pigeon's foot. Then he opened the window and released the pigeon.

"Your Highness..." Xin Shang looked at Xin Zizhao with some concern.

"Don't worry. I'm fine," Xin Zizhao showed a faint smile on his cold and handsome face, as if trying to reassure Xin Shang. "Now, I just want to get back to Xuan'er as soon as possible."

"Your Highness, Miss Wei has Wei Wei and General Ge with her. She'll be all right. Please rest assured."

"Yeah, I know."

Wei Shuxuan stayed in Baolan Town to continue investigating the disappearance cases, but there were still no clues. Ge Zian and Ge Long'an went to the military camp stationed on the border to check on their soldiers. Wei Wei stayed by Wei Shuxuan's side. Seeing Wei Shuxuan with her head down in deep thought, he suddenly noticed a sugar-coated hawthorn stick stall by the roadside. "Miss, do you want to have some sugar-coated hawthorn sticks? They're your favorite."

"Um..." Wei Shuxuan looked up. Seeing the bright red sugar-coated hawthorn sticks, she remembered the sweet and sour taste. Having had no appetite for a long time, she seemed to be drooling over the sugar-coated hawthorn sticks. "Well... Wei Wei, buy me two. Also, see if there are any other flavors. I'd like some different ones."

"Yes, Miss!" Wei Wei was very happy to see that Wei Shuxuan finally had an appetite. He immediately ran over to the stall to buy the sugar-coated hawthorn sticks for her.

After having the sugar-coated hawthorn sticks, Wei Shuxuan seemed to be in a better mood. She asked Wei Wei, "Before, didn't Xin Zizhao ask you and Xin Shang to look for Sima Yongheng? Did you find any useful clues?"

Wei Wei thought for a while before answering, "I'm very sorry, Miss. It's my incompetence. I didn't find any useful clues."

"What are you talking about? It has nothing to do with you. It's just that the criminals hid too well. It has nothing to do with whether I'm competent or not."

Wei Shuxuan tried to console him. Wei Wei was just too responsible. Even when things had nothing to do with him, he still took all the blame on himself. Just like the disappearance of Sima Yongheng, Wei Shuxuan knew that he must be very guilty.

That night, the moon was as cold as water.

Wei Shuxuan noticed that since she and Xin Zizhao came to Baolan Town, there had been no more disappearance cases. It was as if the criminals had agreed not to commit any more crimes. She was a bit frustrated. The criminals must have known that they had come to Baolan Town, so they stopped committing crimes to avoid being found out.

"In that case, aren't we completely exposed to their eyes?" Wei Shuxuan murmured softly. She began to feel a bit unsafe. But if she backed down because of fear, she wouldn't be able to find out the truth of this case.

Just as Wei Shuxuan was thinking seriously, she heard a slight noise coming from outside the window, as if something was scratching the window frame. She found it strange and got up to approach the window carefully. She hadn't locked the window tightly, leaving only a small crack. Through the crack, she saw a white thing flapping its wings outside.

"A white pigeon!" Wei Shuxuan quickly opened the window and saw a snow-white pigeon flapping its wings outside. When the pigeon saw Wei Shuxuan open the window, it flew into the room very familiarly.

Wei Shuxuan picked up the white pigeon, stroked it gently a few times, and took off the bamboo tube tied to its foot. She took out the note. After reading it, she frowned. "Hmmm... Prince Xin Yeheng of the Royal Dragon Kingdom? Who is he? When did such a young prince appear?"

If there really was such a young prince, then Xin Zizhao would have an extra younger brother. And wouldn't she have an extra younger brother-in-law?

"Wow, this matter is really very important..." Wei Shuxuan felt that the big stone hanging in her heart finally settled down. "It's really lucky that it's not a dangerous thing."

However, if they were going to pick up the young prince, why did Xin Zizhao have to go back specifically? Wei Shuxuan pouted and thought discontentedly. It was so annoying that they had to be separated again.

The moon that night was round and big, hanging like a disc in the dark blue sky. Xin Zizhao had already finished dealing with the memorials submitted by the ministers. That was why he carried a pot of wine and flew onto the roof of the Fenghe Hall. He lay on the smooth glazed tiles and looked up at the full moon. He had heard people say that if you looked up at the moon, you would see the face of the person you missed.

After taking a few big gulps of wine, Xin Zizhao looked at the full moon. In a trance, he seemed to see Wei Shuxuan's bright smiling face. It seemed that he could really see the face of the person he missed...

Xin Shang was looking for Xin Zizhao everywhere. He looked around anxiously but couldn't find him anywhere in the Fenghe Hall. He walked out quickly but still didn't see Xin Zizhao. He was going to look for Xin Zizhao outside the Fenghe Hall. But before he could go out, he happened to see Xin Zizhao lying on the roof.

"Your Highness!"

Hearing Xin Shang's voice, Xin Zizhao sat up, propped up a leg, and looked at Xin Shang below. "Xin Shang, you're here. Come and have a drink with me."

Xin Shang was a bit helpless and had no choice but to fly onto the roof. "Your Highness, I thought you had gone out."

"No, I just felt a bit bored. Besides, I miss Xuan'er."

"Hasn't Miss Wei sent you a message by carrier pigeon?" Xin Shang calculated the days and estimated that the carrier pigeon should have reached Baolan Town two days ago.

"It shouldn't be that fast. Xuan'er writes very slowly," Xin Zizhao couldn't help but curl his lips when he thought of Wei Shuxuan's handwriting. "But she should have made some progress."

"Your Highness, you'd better go to rest earlier. You still have to attend the enfeoffment ceremony of the Eleventh Prince tomorrow."

"Got it. I know what I'm doing."

Xin Zizhao nodded. In front of his secret guards like Xin Shang, he didn't like to use the address "I" (the imperial self - reference in Chinese). Using that address made him seem superior. It was better to be just like in normal times.

Actually, Xin Zizhao hadn't seen his Eleventh Royal Brother since he came back. He didn't really want to see this royal brother. Although they were half - brothers, they didn't have much affection for each other. He didn't like to meet people he wasn't familiar with. He would rather stay in the Fenghe Hall and drink with Xin Shang.

The next day, Xin Zizhao still came to attend the enfeoffment ceremony of the Eleventh Prince. He seemed to see a very familiar person walking towards him.
