chapter 7

Su Yang didn't think she was an impatient person, but she was definitely a doer. When it came to any task, she preferred to take action first and never liked to be passive.

However, she never expected that Xu Lize would be even more decisive.

At half past eight in the morning, when the doorbell rang, Su Yang thought it was her roommate who had gone out and forgotten something.

But when she rushed to the door, bypassing the fully - packed cartons in the living room, she found that the person standing outside was actually Xu Lize.

Dressed in black from head to toe, he looked noble and sophisticated, standing out sharply against the shabby surroundings.

Su Yang had been sorting out the last few books that hadn't been packed yet. She hadn't had time to change out of her pajamas, and there was still a slice of bread in her mouth that her roommate had stuffed for her before leaving. She wasn't exactly in a mess, but she certainly didn't look presentable.

"Didn't we agree on twelve o'clock?" Su Yang was stunned. It took her a while to swallow the dry piece of bread in her mouth.

Xu Lize showed no expression on his face. He just took a cursory look around the messy living room behind Su Yang. "I have a meeting this afternoon, and it's been rescheduled to one o'clock."

In other words, the plan had changed.

Xu Lize said it casually, but Su Yang felt as if she was facing a great enemy.

"I... I'll be quick, really quick. There are only two more boxes..." As she spoke, Su Yang turned around. Before she could take a step, her knee hit a dining chair that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere behind her.

Su Yang winced in pain and almost squatted down, clutching her knee.

The apartment she and her roommate rented was in an old community over twenty years old. The layout of the house wasn't great, especially the living room, which was extremely small.

Since they were in a hurry to pack, Su Yang and her roommate had been busy since last night. All kinds of luggage were strewn from the bedroom door, leaving hardly any room to walk in the living room. The dining table and chairs had also been moved.

Xu Lize had been standing at the door, looking calm and collected, showing no intention of offering help.

But for a split second when Su Yang bent down, he instinctively took his hands out of his pockets.

However, his impulse was short - lived, as Su Yang quickly straightened up. She tied up her long hair and started packing methodically.

At exactly ten o'clock, she had placed seven large packed boxes by the door, changed into a T - shirt and jeans, and wheeled out two suitcases, one large and one small, from the bedroom.

"Is that all?" Xu Lize glanced at the stacked boxes.

Su Yang nodded and quickly added, as if afraid of his misunderstanding.

"I originally planned to stay at a friend's place for a while, but it didn't seem appropriate to show up with so much stuff. And next Wednesday..." Su Yang stole a glance at Xu Lize, "I thought it would be better to trouble you earlier."

As they were talking, one stood outside the door and the other in the hallway, separated by just a few dozen centimeters.

Su Yang noticed for the first time that Xu Lize was really tall. When he stood upright, he almost touched the doorframe.

"You," Xu Lize suddenly said out of the blue.

Su Yang was confused. She tilted her head up and looked at him blankly.

Xu Lize raised his eyebrows and seemed impatient as he explained, "The person who is about to marry me, still addressing me as 'sir'. Isn't it a bit awkward?"

After saying that, he took the large suitcase from Su Yang's hand, lowered the handle and lifted it up, then took a long stride and walked downstairs.

Seeing this, Su Yang quickly closed the door and followed him with the smaller suitcase.

When they reached downstairs, she found that Xu Lize had changed to a seven - seater commercial vehicle today. The rear two rows of seats had been folded down in advance.

They made three trips together, and all of Su Yang's belongings were loaded into the car.

Before leaving, Su Yang sent a message to her roommate who hadn't returned yet, saying that her friend had come to pick her up early in the morning and she couldn't wait any longer.

Finally, Su Yang wished her roommate a smooth trip back to her hometown.

The roommate replied quickly, saying that she must make up a "farewell dinner" with Su Yang if there was a chance next time.

Su Yang smiled at her phone. When she looked up, the car had already left the community and merged onto the elevated road.

The city scenery flashed by in a blur. A faint, cold fragrance filled the car, like a trickle of snow on a sun - lit mountain peak, on the verge of melting but still icy cold.

Su Yang remembered that this was the scent on Xu Lize.

Seeing the little woman resting her face against the car window, enjoying the scenery as if she were going on a picnic, Xu Lize suddenly clicked his tongue and asked, "Do you know where I'm taking you?"

Su Yang turned to look at him. "Aren't we going to your place?"

"Do you know where my place is?" Xu Lize deliberately asked again.

Su Yang shook her head, not understanding.

Xu Lize snorted. "You get in the car with me without knowing where we're going. If I sell you, would you even help me count the money?"

Su Yang blinked and let out a soft laugh. "If that's the case, Mr. Xu, you'll be at a great loss. Because even before this deal is done, you've already lost one million. Aren't you the young master of Mingkai Group? Does Mingkai always do losing - money business?"

"How do you know?" Xu Lize turned his head, his sword - like eyebrows furrowed, and asked her in a deep voice.

"What?" Su Yang was startled by his sudden seriousness.

"How do you know I'm the young master of Mingkai Group?"

Xu Lize didn't like stupid people, but he also didn't like smart - alecks. He had just taken over Mingkai not long ago, and only a few people in the circle knew about it.

"It was... Su Qian who told me..." Su Yang had witnessed Xu Lize's mood swings.

"Su Qian? Is she still harassing you?" Xu Lize's expression softened a bit.

"Not... not exactly harassment," Su Yang lied and shook her head.

She didn't want to tell Xu Lize about the messy things in her family. After all, she had taken his money, and she had already lost her bottom line in front of this man.

The atmosphere in the car suddenly became awkward. Xu Lize didn't say anything, and Su Yang didn't know what else to say.

Suddenly, Su Yang felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She took it out and saw that it was a call from the recruitment team leader of Chen's Group.

Su Yang quickly answered the call. The other person congratulated her on passing the first - round interview and then arranged a time for the second - round interview.

Su Yang was a bit excited. She whispered to the team leader, asking how many people had passed the preliminary interview yesterday.

The team leader didn't hide anything and told her that out of eight candidates, only three had made it through.

Su Yang thanked the team leader again and politely waited for the other person to hang up before putting away her phone.

Suddenly, she heard Xu Lize ask, "Why were you at the venture capital building of Chen's Group yesterday?"

"I was there for an interview," Su Yang replied truthfully. This was the second time Xu Lize had asked this question, and she didn't think there was any need to hide it.

"An interview?" Xu Lize turned to look at her while holding the steering wheel. "For a position at Chen's Group?"

"Yeah."

"What position?"

"Administrative secretary." After Su Yang answered, she suddenly realized and asked Xu Lize, "Why were you there yesterday?"

"I was also at Chen's Group," Xu Lize's voice sounded lighter.

"What were you doing there?" Su Yang was curious.

"Coincidentally, I was there to discuss business with the president of Chen's Group."
