Chapter 212: A Birthday Surprise

Just then, Mark Chao suddenly received a text message from Qin Qiao'er: "I've suddenly got something on tonight. I took the two kids for an audition. I might not be able to accompany you on your birthday."

Mark Chao was aware that the two kids had caught the eye of D&E. This was quite an important matter and a good opportunity. He couldn't do anything about it. He didn't want to hold back the kids' futures just because it was his birthday.

Although he felt extremely disappointed inside, he still concealed his sadness and replied to Qin Qiao'er: "It's okay. The kids' business is important. I'll wait for you guys at home. Just come back quickly when you're done."

Mark Chao suddenly became slow. He had been in a great hurry all the way when he left work today. He had overtaken countless cars and was impatiently waiting for the traffic lights, eager to get home quickly.

But when he finally reached his doorstep, his movements suddenly became very slow. He parked his car in his parking space at a leisurely pace, looking nothing like a man with high expectations.

Mark Chao picked up his keys like a sloth and opened the door. But as soon as he opened it, he was stunned by the sight in front of him.

Qin Qiao'er and the two kids were standing at the door. Qin Qiao'er was holding a birthday cake in her hand. As soon as the door opened, they started singing the Happy Birthday song.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..."

Mark Chao stood there, stunned, not knowing how to react for a moment. The person who had just said there was an engagement suddenly appeared in front of him. He wasn't sure if what he was seeing was real or not.

While Mark Chao was still in a daze, Qin Qiao'er urged him: "Hurry up and make a wish and blow out the candles!"

Mark Chao seemed to come to his senses at this moment. He closed his eyes tightly and folded his hands piously in front of his chest: May this wonderful moment last forever.

This was the only wish he made on his 30th birthday this year. He hoped that every birthday in the future could be like this one, with the people he loved most by his side.

After making his wish, Mark Chao opened his eyes, and then they all blew out the candles together.

As the room fell into darkness, Mark Chao quickly turned on the lights. Looking at the smiling faces of the people in front of him, Mark Chao couldn't get angry at all.

Looking at their beaming faces, Mark Chao just felt helpless but also warm inside.

He had really been very sad just now. He had been looking forward to this day all day long and had worked hard to compress all his work into the time before getting off work.

But when he got home, all he received was such a text message. He almost wanted to leave home and just find a random place to spend his birthday.

Mark Chao reached out helplessly and pinched Qin Qiao'er's nose: "Who taught you to lie to me?"

Qin Qiao'er looked at Mark Chao and gave a sly smile: "Did I manage to deceive you? So, is it a pleasant surprise?"

"Surprise? I was almost heartbroken. Fortunately, I didn't cry secretly outside. Otherwise, I would have been so embarrassed when I came in."

Qin Qiao'er stuck out her tongue: "Sorry. But you should think about it. How could we take on a job on your most important birthday? Although work is important, you are the most important one to us."

Mark Chao was dispelled of his sadness and concerns by Qin Qiao'er's simple words. He once again felt the warmth of his family.

When they entered the house, Mark Chao found that Qin Qiao'er had cleaned the house spotlessly, and there were several neatly arranged dishes on the dining table.

Qin Qiao'er straightened her back as if showing off her achievements and said to Mark Chao: "I made all of these. Hurry up and taste them to see if they're delicious. Should we eat the cake first? Well, forget it. Maybe we should eat dinner first. Otherwise, we won't be able to eat any dinner after eating the cake."

Watching Qin Qiao'er struggling with herself there, Mark Chao couldn't help but laugh: "Okay, stop struggling. Let's eat the cake first. I've never eaten a cake you made before. When did you learn how to make cakes?"

Qin Qiao'er looked a bit embarrassed: "Just taste it first and see if it's delicious."

Qin Qiao'er clumsily drew four little figures on the cake, representing herself, Mark Chao, and the two kids. It had to be said that Qin Qiao'er didn't have much talent for drawing. One could only barely tell that it was a man and a woman with two kids.

After practicing for an entire afternoon, Qin Qiao'er finally managed to make a cake base that looked and tasted okay. But she had a hard time decorating it.

She searched for many patterns online but felt that she would surely mess them up in the end. So, she finally chose a relatively simple pattern and just drew self - portraits of the four of them.

When Mark Chao cut the cake, he placed the little figure representing himself next to Qin Qiao'er and the one representing Qin Qiao'er in front of himself.

He said seriously: "In this way, we can have each other."

Qin Qiao'er urged him: "Hurry up and taste it! Although it looks a bit ugly, I can guarantee that it tastes great."

The two kids also took a bite of the cake with high expectations. Although it didn't look very good, the taste was actually quite okay. It couldn't compare with the cakes sold outside, but it was made by Qin Qiao'er herself.

Just for this reason, Mark Chao thought this cake was more delicious than any other cake in the world. What did the cakes made by Michelin chefs matter?

The two kids couldn't help but exclaim: "It's so delicious!"

Seeing the three of them eating so happily, Qin Qiao'er's hanging heart finally relaxed. She had been busy all day today, waiting for this moment.

She just hoped to see the happy smiles on their faces so that all her efforts wouldn't be in vain.

After they quickly finished sharing the cake, they sat down at the table and officially started having dinner.

After dinner, Qin Qiao'er solemnly took out a small box from the living room secretly and gave it to Mark Chao, saying it was a birthday present for him.

When Mark Chao opened the small box, he found a small and delicate tie clip on it. The silver tie clip was subtly inlaid with a few black diamonds. Mark Chao liked it very much.
