Chapter 13: A Scapegoat Found

Lin Li returned to the dormitory in the evening.

I had already been cleaned up by Gu Fancheng and sent back to bed.

"Classmate Lu, why is your mosquito net torn?" Lin Li asked in confusion. When she left, the room had been peaceful. But in just this afternoon, there was a rip in my net, and the metal zipper was all in tatters.

"I accidentally rolled off the bed..."

Propping up my exhausted body, I slowly climbed down the bed. My legs were so weak that they trembled slightly just standing.

"Are you okay? Should I take you to the school infirmary?" Lin Li was very kind.

"No, thanks." I shook my head. Under my baggy T - shirt were all the red and purple marks after lovemaking. If others saw them, they would definitely think I was an immoral woman!

"Do you want me to bring you some food?" Seeing me staggering, Lin Li couldn't help asking again.

"No, I have something to do. I've made an appointment with my high - school classmate."

I hadn't forgotten about looking for Wang Anran's ghost at night, so I declined Lin Li's kindness.

Lin Li had no choice but to take her meal card and lunch box and go to the cafeteria by herself.

Seeing that it was already dark outside the window, I was afraid of missing the time when Wang Anran would appear. I reached for my phone beside the pillow but found it gone. Presumably, Gu Fancheng had thrown it away because it annoyed him...

As I tidied my clothes and walked towards the laboratory building, I thought about Gu Fancheng's origin. I met him in Fan Jing Villa. The reason his soul remained there must be deeply related to that mansion!

Moreover, he had a servant who could possess paper figures or living people... Judging from his disdainful look towards our dormitory, I thought he must have been the young master of a rich family in his previous life, completely ignorant of the hardships of the world.

When I passed by the cafeteria, I saw a man standing under a big tree, out of place among the passing students. He was in a sharp suit and wore a pair of white gloves, not caring at all about the looks from others.

"Madam, I've finally waited for you."

Seeing me looking at him suspiciously, the man in the suit came up with a bright smile. It was the driver who had driven me to school in the morning.

"You... How did you come to the school?!" I took two steps back.

"The young master asked me to bring you something." The driver held up a small box in his hand. "Also, my name is not 'you you you'. My name is Gu Nian. You can just call me Lao Nian from now on."

Saying that, he handed the box to me.

"Wow... It's the latest iPhone!" A classmate who was watching the commotion couldn't help exclaiming. "This phone is very popular now. You can't even buy it at a higher price!"

I frowned and took another step back.

Sure enough, there was a phone box in Gu Nian's hand. The lid was already open, and inside was a small silver - gray phone. "The young master said your phone was broken and asked me to bring you one quickly. You can just make do with it."

"No, this phone is too expensive. I'm not used to it."

I shook my head. My last phone was a gift from my father on my 15th birthday. It was just a student phone worth a thousand yuan, and I had used it for almost three years.

"Please take it. Otherwise, the young master will get angry again." Gu Nian was persistent.

Many classmates had already started whispering while looking at me. Gu Nian's outfit was too eye - catching. If this confrontation continued, I would definitely become the talk of the school.

Gritting my teeth and pretending not to know him, I turned around and ran.

"Madam..."

Gu Nian wanted to chase after me but was stopped by two security guards in the cafeteria.

Delayed like this, I was afraid I had already missed Wang Anran's appearance time. Ignoring the discomfort in my body, I ran as fast as I could towards the laboratory building.

Just as I passed through the well - landscaped woods, I saw a gray shadow flash on top of the laboratory building from afar and then plunge down.

"Ah..." I covered my mouth tightly to suppress my scream, telling myself in my heart that this must be Wang Anran repeating the moment of her death.

Like the dull sound when a thermos flask explodes, a girl landed on the cement ground with the back of her head first. Her shattered bones and hair were mixed with the red and white brain matter, splashing everywhere.

I staggered two steps and finally saw the face of the girl with unclosed eyes. It wasn't Wang Anran. It was a girl I had never seen before!!

Suddenly, a thick, substantial black mist appeared out of thin air. The faceless ghost guard appeared, shaking the chain in his hand. He quickly threw the chain into the void, and then a faint shadow emerged from the broken body of the girl. Her face was dull as she was led out by the chain...

"Wait a minute!"

I rushed in front of the faceless ghost guard in shock and asked, "Where is Wang Anran? Why... Why did this girl fall?"

The faceless ghost guard turned his head. His shrill voice carried a hint of disdain. "It's better to rely on yourself than to rely on others. Wang Anran has found a new substitute and gone to enjoy herself."

"You're a ghost guard! How can you just watch her kill the innocent?!" I was extremely angry.

The girl on the ground looked young. She should be a freshman like me. I didn't understand why, with a ghost guard escorting, Wang Anran could still do such a heinous thing.

Unexpectedly, the faceless ghost guard suddenly let out a sinister laugh. His body was just that shapeless black mist and instantly appeared in front of me.

"Mrs. Gu, this is also for your own good! Haven't you heard that ghosts lie? Whether it's something a ghost asks you to do or something a ghost promises you, don't take it seriously... She has been in this cycle of death for eight years. She has wanted to get out of the sea of bitterness every day. If she could tempt you to die yesterday, why can't she seduce others today?!"

He sized me up from his flat - faced expression and took a step back before continuing, "Moreover, you're Gu Fancheng's wife in the mortal world. Even if Wang Anran had the guts of ten thousand people, she wouldn't want to have any karmic connection with you... Hehe... This is just perfect. I can also avoid the punishment of not being promoted for a hundred years. It's a win - win - win situation. Why not?"

With his sinister laughter, the black mist dissipated instantly, just like when he appeared.

"Where is Wang Anran?!"

I took two steps forward, but there was no one to answer. Under the bright moon and sparse stars, where was there any trace of the ghost guard?

There was only the body of the girl with a tragic death on the ground, her eyes wide open blankly, staring woodenly at the dark sky...

This poor girl probably didn't even understand why she had chosen the path of no return. Her death allowed a vengeful ghost to break out of the cage and let the corrupt ghost guard escape a hundred - year punishment!

I bit my pale lips hard and turned away.

I needed to find the "Wang Anran" on the No. 5 subway loop. If the dead "Wang Anran" lied, then this living senior sister would be in danger. Now that Wang Anran had escaped the control of the ghost guard, she would probably go to find the enemy she had been thinking about for eight years first!
