Chapter 44: The Village

Last time, Xie Qian took Ning Yitao's advice and secretly went to her husband's hometown without telling him.

Xie Qian actually had a son who was abducted when he was a child.

The child went missing when he was four years old, and he had been missing for more than four years. In the surveillance video retrieved from that time, it was found that the child was grabbed into a car by a man and driven away.

After that, there was no trace of the car.

Xie Qian never gave up looking for her son. Even though she had spent a fortune, she still refused to give up.

Unlike some families affected by child abduction cases, where the couple might have disputes over the search for their child and even end up divorced, Xie Qian and her husband, Di Yong, had always been on the same page.

Di Yong supported whatever Xie Qian did. He had never given up looking for their child either. Xie Qian was extremely grateful for his unconditional support.

To be honest, Xie Qian felt a bit ashamed for keeping this from him this time, but she still chose to trust Ning Yitao and give it a try.

After the program ended, she lied to Di Yong and rushed straight to the village in his hometown.

She specifically waited until it was dark before showing up in the village. If she really found her son there, her appearance would surely put others on guard.

Under the cover of the night, she secretly checked every household one by one.

To her surprise, just when she was about to give up, she actually found her son in the village.

When she saw her son's figure through the window, she could hardly believe her eyes. Over the years of searching, her son's facial features had been deeply engraved in her mind. She was sure that she couldn't be mistaken even after all these years.

After so many years, the overwhelming emotion of having her son back made her tears well up and fall in big drops. To avoid making any noise and alerting others, she had to cover her mouth tightly.

She knew that this family was the only shaman's family in the village. In this remote and backward village, the shaman was almost worshipped as a god.

If she caused any commotion here, Xie Qian was certain that she wouldn't be able to leave the village unscathed, let alone take her son away.

This was Di Yong's hometown. She couldn't believe that her in - laws and Di Yong didn't know about this.

They had all been keeping this from her. Di Yong had just watched her search for their son like a fool for all these years.

Xie Qian's eyes were bloodshot and filled with tears as she stood outside the window.

She couldn't believe that she had been betrayed by the people she trusted the most.

She couldn't bear to leave. She still wanted to try to take her son, Di Sumu, away. So she hid under the shaman's window and stayed there until the middle of the night.

Xie Qian believed that if her son saw her, he would definitely recognize her.

The mountain path beside the village was shrouded in thick darkness that seemed impenetrable, like it couldn't be cut by a knife or pierced by a needle. There was no sound of the wind or the chirping of insects. The deep mountains were extremely quiet, and the night was so thick that it seemed to never disperse.

In the long and silent village, the only sounds were the chirping of various insects, and there were faint, almost imperceptible footsteps behind her.

Xie Qian encouraged herself. She just wanted to wait for Di Sumu to come out. Maternal love overcame her fear.

She waited and waited, but she never saw the shaman. Only a few boys of Di Sumu's age were bustling back and forth in the room.

She didn't know what those bottles and jars in their hands were, but they were all very careful.

Xie Qian suspected that these children were all abducted by the so - called shaman from the villagers' homes.

When the lights in the house went out, Xie Qian planned to sneak in or find an opportunity to recognize her son when Di Sumu got up to use the toilet.

Unexpectedly, as soon as the lights in the shaman's house went out.

She got used to the darkness, and the soft moonlight was sprinkled on the ground.

Xie Qian saw a shadow appear behind her. It was getting closer and closer. A hoarse voice kept calling her name.

She suddenly turned around.

In the thick night, a tall and rotting corpse was walking stiffly towards her.

Dark and cold blood flowed from the corpse, as if it was winding and covering the sky and the earth.

The moon was hovering alone in the sky, its light dim.

She was really scared this time. Her hands couldn't stop shaking, and she was so frightened that she stood still.

She couldn't say a word for a long time, and the atmosphere around her was filled with uneasiness.

When she finally came to her senses, she ran away in a hurry and didn't stop until she reached a dense forest.

She saw a hidden cave and didn't think twice before hiding in it. The entrance of the cave was covered by branches, so it was hard to find from the outside.

Her hands and legs were numb with fear.

Xie Qian held her breath and listened intently to the sounds outside, afraid that the strange thing would catch up with her.

She didn't even dare to breathe loudly. The cold wind howled outside, and from time to time, she could hear the rustling sound of the wind blowing through the leaves.

Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed in front of her eyes. Xie Qian felt that there were countless pairs of eyes looking at her from all directions.

Her body gradually curled up into a ball, and she desperately moved backwards, trying to hide deeper.

But suddenly, she couldn't move back anymore. She didn't know what was blocking her.

Xie Qian felt a chill behind her, and the place she was sitting on was wet. But it was too dark, and she couldn't see anything. Her survival instinct told her that something was wrong, and she had to escape!

Just as she was about to move, the branches covering the entrance of the cave were pulled aside.

In the moonlight, Xie Qian found that the person coming was actually her son, Di Sumu!

She felt like she had suddenly found a reliance. She tightly grabbed his hand and cried, "Son, son, I'm your mom."

When she found that Di Sumu also held her hand back, Xie Qian couldn't stop smiling. She thought that her son had recognized her.

But Di Sumu was expressionless. He just looked at her coldly and roughly pulled her out of the cave where she was hiding.

He didn't care what Xie Qian said at all. He just mechanically grabbed her arm and dragged her across the ground full of branches.

He was surprisingly strong. Although he was just a nine - or ten - year - old boy, he could easily pull an adult like Xie Qian.

In the moonlight, Xie Qian found that her clothes, hands, and pants were all covered in blood!

It was from the cave just now!

No matter how much she had been looking forward to seeing her son, she realized that something was wrong at this moment.

She found that she was being dragged towards the shaman's house. The lights in the house came on, and Xie Qian vaguely saw the terrifying figure of the corpse.

The survival instinct made Xie Qian explode. She suddenly broke free from Di Sumu's restraint. This time, she found the right way and ran straight towards the entrance of the village without looking back.

Di Sumu closely chased after her. Xie Qian felt that she had never run so fast in her life. When she rushed out of the village entrance, there was no sound behind her.

She boldly looked back and saw that Di Sumu really didn't continue to chase. He just stood still at the village entrance stiffly.

"He can't leave the village!"

This thought quickly occupied Xie Qian's mind.
