Chapter 55: Breakout

His heart was filled with excitement, but that was all it was.

He reached out, pinched Ning Yitao's chin, and tilted her head slightly upwards, making her look straight into his eyes.

His eyes were filled with a cruel look as he stared at Ning Yitao.

"Beauty, isn't it too simple for Gu Jiangli to just die like this? I'll let him live a bit longer. Hehe."

His words were full of lewdness and evil. As he spoke, he stuck out his tongue and licked his lips.

Ning Yitao's eyes were filled with disgust and hatred.

Seeing the disgust in Ning Yitao's eyes, Wumi felt a thrill of revenge. He said,

"Come on, tie him up and cut his tendons in his hands and feet."

"Oh, right. Bring me a dagger. He hurt me, and I'll make him pay a thousand or ten - thousand - fold myself."

There was a hint of mockery in Wumi's words.

Wumi grabbed Ning Yitao's hair and forced her to look up at him. His eyes were full of contempt.

Then he continued,

"Open your eyes wide and watch how a great war god falls."

Wumi yanked Ning Yitao's hair and brought her face close to Gu Jiangli, who was about to be tortured, and held her still.

Ning Yitao's scalp was numb from the pulling, and beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.

She could hear Gu Jiangli's muffled groans of pain, and in front of her was the scene of Gu Jiangli being crippled.

Ning Yitao's face was full of despair. She wanted to resist. She struggled to protect Gu Jiangli, but her strength was no match for Wumi's.

Gu Jiangli was in so much pain that he lay on the ground, gasping for breath, but his eyes were fierce.

Ning Yitao was crying her heart out. This shouldn't be happening. He shouldn't have come to save her. It wasn't worth it.

Wumi picked up the dagger beside him and sliced off pieces of Gu Jiangli's flesh while muttering, "Kill you, kill you..."

Years of pent - up hatred burst out.

Ning Yitao watched as his body was covered in wounds, bloody and mangled.

He didn't make a sound. His armor was stained red with his blood. He lay in his own pool of blood, and warm blood even splashed onto her face.

She could only watch helplessly as Gu Jiangli was at the mercy of others. It was all because of her.

Her heart felt like it was being torn apart. She fought free from the Southern soldiers' grasp, even though one of her hands was dislocated.

She seemed not to feel the pain and threw herself on Gu Jiangli.

Gu Jiangli wanted to push her away, but he couldn't feel his hands and feet at all. For the first time, he shed tears and whispered in Ning Yitao's ear, pleading with her,

"Please move aside. Gao Zhuo promised me in his message. If I die, you'll be safe. I've arranged a way out for you. No matter which country you're in, there will be people to protect you."

"Be obedient and move aside." Gu Jiangli's voice was extremely gentle.

At the last moment, he realized he had been betrayed by Gao Zhuo. But he knew that Gao Zhuo only hated him and wouldn't make things difficult for his wife. To die in peace, Gao Zhuo had promised that Ning Yitao would be unharmed.

This was also the end of their brotherhood.

The most vicious thing about Gao Zhuo was that he didn't give Gu Jiangli any time to react. If he didn't go, Ning Yitao would be doomed.

But he spent his last moments paving the way for Ning Yitao. She had to live. The common people had his elite soldiers, but Ning Yitao only had him to save.

Ning Yitao's body was covered in his blood, and her clothes were soaked.

Ning Yitao was crying uncontrollably, "No, I don't want this."

Wumi, who had been pushed aside, looked at Ning Yitao's back and laughed even more wickedly, "Then I'll let you two doomed lovers die together."

Saying that, he raised his big knife high, intending to pierce through their bodies.

At the moment when Wumi's knife was about to fall, thunder rumbled, dark clouds rolled in the sky, and lightning flashed. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck a huge tree, and the tree was cut in half.

This sudden change made Wumi's eyes flicker a few times, and he froze in mid - action.

He looked up and saw a vague figure hovering and tumbling in the thunderclouds.

The people around him panicked. One of them pointed at the figure and shouted, "It's a dragon! It's a dragon! The gods have appeared!"

It was a once - in - a - million - year sight for them. They all knelt on the ground in unison, kowtowing to the sky with pious expressions, not even caring about their own emperor.

Wumi looked up at the sky and saw a huge silver - white divine dragon tumbling out of the thunderclouds. But the next second, the dragon seemed to be baring its teeth and claws, about to pounce on him.

Wumi stepped back in horror. A sense of crisis hit him, but his body was firmly rooted to the spot and he couldn't move.

His pupils dilated, and his face was full of shock.

He saw a pair of pitch - black eyes, deep and cold, exuding endless killing intent.

The dragon's body hovered in mid - air.

Suddenly, it broke through the clouds and shot straight at him, quickly passing through his body.

Wumi was filled with despair. His pupils dilated, and countless images flashed before his eyes.

But everything turned into a fantasy.

"Gu Jiangli... No..."

Wumi shouted loudly. His voice was shrill, filled with intense unwillingness.

Hearing his shout, Ning Yitao turned to look at him.

He stood there, trembling non - stop, with his head tilted up towards the sky. But there were no pupils in his eyes, only the whites, which was extremely eerie.

His face was full of despair and grief.

Gu Jiangli had fainted from the pain.

When Wumi came to his senses, he slowly lowered his head and looked at his own hands. His eyes were wide open as if they were about to split, and there was still blood on the corner of his mouth.

None of the people around dared to step forward to stop him. This was the punishment from the divine dragon, and no one dared to move.

The knife that was supposed to pierce Ning Yitao and Gu Jiangli's hearts had instead pierced through his own body.

He suddenly understood something. Wumi looked at his own hands. His hands were trembling non - stop, and his eyes were full of fear, as if he had just endured inhuman torture.

He gritted his teeth and pulled out the knife, wanting to rush over and kill the embracing figures.

But as soon as he took a step, he spat out a mouthful of blood. The knife in his hand fell to the ground, and he collapsed limply.

But his eyes were firmly fixed on Gu Jiangli's direction, as if he wanted to see through the two of them.

Wumi looked at Gu Jiangli. He knew he was finished.

Gu Jiangli,

I curse you! I curse you to die a bad death!

I curse you to be alone until you die!

I curse you...

Wumi looked at him, his eyes full of anger. At the end of his life, he still couldn't get rid of the shadow brought by Gu Jiangli. He still hadn't avenged himself or captured the Northern Kingdom.

Even though he was lying on the ground, his eyes were wide open, full of bloodshot eyes.

He died with his eyes wide open.

Ning Yitao hugged the unconscious Gu Jiangli and looked at the sky warily. The tumbling figure in the sky gradually calmed down.

The gloomy weather gradually cleared up. A crack appeared in the dark clouds. No, it was the sky that was torn apart, and a ray of light shone down.

The tumbling divine dragon turned into a ray of light and landed beside Ning Yitao.

Its huge body knocked over the Southern soldiers, but it only restrained its aura in Ning Yitao's direction.

Ning Yitao hugged Gu Jiangli tightly and looked at the divine dragon warily.

The divine dragon also stared at her. At the moment of eye contact, it seemed to understand something.
