On the very day Ji Feiyu was taken out by Butterfly Hua, something went wrong.
Butterfly Hua was still carrying her and hadn't reached a safe place when he felt that her body was sticky and there was a smell of blood. When he put her down, he saw a pool of bright red blood beneath her. He quickly rushed her to the medical clinic.
It was still the middle of the night, and the clinic was closed.
Butterfly Hua carried Ji Feiyu horizontally and kicked the door open.
After much commotion, he finally grabbed a doctor to examine Ji Feiyu.
"How is she?" Butterfly Hua was extremely nervous. The doctor felt her pulse and then shook his head.
"Please accept my condolences. The baby can't be saved!"
"Baby?" Butterfly Hua was stunned.
The doctor noticed his surprise and slapped him on the head, scolding, "How do you take care of your wife? Don't you even know if she's pregnant?"
Butterfly Hua was unable to explain himself, so he just followed the doctor's words and asked, "Then why did my wife have a miscarriage?"
The doctor coughed lightly and whispered, "Did you kidnap this lady?"
Butterfly Hua got angry. "Hey, how can you talk like that? I'm a suave and handsome young master. Do I look like that kind of person?"
The doctor sighed helplessly. "Then why did you give her the muscle - weakening powder? Isn't it because you're afraid she'll escape?"
Hearing this, Butterfly Hua got even angrier. "You mean her miscarriage is related to the muscle - weakening powder?"
The doctor said, "The muscle - weakening powder can block her qi and blood and make the fetus unstable. But the direct cause of her miscarriage should be emotional fluctuations and pent - up emotions. When I felt her pulse, I could tell that her qi and blood were blocked, which should be the effect of the muscle - weakening powder. But the stagnation in her heart meridian is related to her emotions!"
Butterfly Hua then thought of the heart - broken look on her face when her senior maid died, and he couldn't help feeling sad.
"What should we do now?" He felt a bit helpless.
"I'll prescribe some tonics for her. She needs to rest quietly for more than a month. She mustn't touch cold water or be exposed to cold wind. Her food should be warm and sufficient. She mustn't take a bath, or she'll easily develop chronic ailments."
Butterfly Hua felt his head spin. Originally, he wanted to take Ji Feiyu as far away as possible. But now, they had to stay in the imperial city for a month.
Butterfly Hua quickly said, "Okay, okay. Please prescribe the medicine quickly."
The doctor asked, "Name?"
Butterfly Hua wondered, "Do you need the name just to prescribe some medicine?"
The doctor said, "This is a proper medical clinic. I need to keep medical records for all my patients."
Butterfly Hua thought for a while and said, "Okay. Her name is Hua Yu."
"Age?"
"Eighteen."
"Address?"
Butterfly Hua got impatient. "No address. We're outsiders and currently staying in an inn."
"Okay. Then I'll write 'inn'. May I ask which inn?"
Butterfly Hua got angry. "Are you looking for trouble?" Hey, he really had a fiery temper.
The doctor didn't ask anymore. He randomly wrote down an inn name, recorded the symptoms and causes, and quickly prescribed the medicine, telling Butterfly Hua to go get the medicine. He really couldn't afford to offend this "gentleman" who looked handsome but was actually quite rude. He also didn't want to recall the experience of being roughly dragged out of bed for a consultation.
After getting the medicine, Butterfly Hua took Ji Feiyu back to his own residence, of course after wrapping her in his cloak.
Butterfly Hua thought he had been quite considerate. When he rescued Ji Feiyu from the cold palace, he wrapped her in his cloak on the way, making her blend in with the night and preventing her from feeling too cold. Otherwise, wouldn't she have violated the first rule of not being exposed to cold wind even before seeing the doctor?
By the time Butterfly Hua had arranged everything for Ji Feiyu, dawn was breaking. He had been running around all night and was exhausted, but after taking her home, he still disguised her first. Then he asked the old maid in his courtyard to help Ji Feiyu clean up simply and change into a clean set of clothes.
The next afternoon, Ji Feiyu slowly woke up. She saw an antique - style house with round lattice windows and a bed carved from yellow sandalwood.
"Butterfly Hua?" She called out softly.
Hearing the sound, an old maid came in and said, "So the young lady is awake. I thought I heard wrong. I'll go call the master."
In a short while, Butterfly Hua floated in wearing an exquisite and luxurious robe, looking completely different from the gray - robed man who went to the cold palace.
"You're still so ostentatious." Ji Feiyu couldn't help but shake her head.
Butterfly Hua dismissed the old maid and sat down at the small round table in the room. "What do you think? Isn't my little residence unique?"
Ji Feiyu glanced around and sighed again. "Flashy."
Yellow sandalwood was so expensive, yet he was willing to use it to carve a bed.
Butterfly Hua covered his chest as if he was hurt. "Yu'er, you can't be as straightforward as before and hurt people with your words."
Ji Feiyu's originally gloomy mood improved a lot because of his exaggerated performance. She asked, "Where is this? Have we left the imperial city?"
Butterfly Hua shook his head. "We're still in the imperial city. We can't leave for at least a month."
"Why? Did the dog emperor find out so quickly and seal off the city?" Ji Feiyu was a bit incredulous.
Butterfly Hua still shook his head. Instead, he said mysteriously, "A good news and a bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?"
Ji Feiyu said, "The good news."
Butterfly Hua said excitedly, "The dog emperor doesn't even know you've left. I just went out to gather information, and there's not a single sign of commotion in the palace."
Ji Feiyu: "Is this even good news?"
Butterfly Hua: "In these extraordinary times, no news is definitely the best news."
Ji Feiyu: "Then what's the bad news?"
Butterfly Hua choked.
Ji Feiyu: "Tell me."
Butterfly Hua smiled. "Get ready. I'm afraid you won't be able to bear it."
Ji Feiyu thought that after so many things had happened, there was nothing she couldn't bear. She said, "Stop being so mysterious. Hurry up and tell me!"
Butterfly Hua thought for a while and then said, "Um... You had a miscarriage."
"Come on, I thought it was something serious. Isn't it just a mis..." Ji Feiyu was about to comfort him, but when she saw his expression, she couldn't continue. "Wait, what did you say? I had a miscarriage?"
Butterfly Hua nodded and quickly said, "So you need to rest quietly. That's why we can't leave for this month."
"How could I have a miscarriage? I didn't even..." Ji Feiyu couldn't continue. She counted the days. Her period had been absent for a while, but her period had always been irregular. This shouldn't be...
Ji Feiyu was a bit dazed by this sudden news.
But after the daze, a dull pain started in her heart.
She fell silent.
Butterfly Hua looked at her and comforted her, "Well, if you've escaped, maybe it's not necessarily a bad thing that it's gone?"
Ji Feiyu also felt that fate was playing tricks on her. Just then, the sky outside darkened. One or two raindrops fell into the pond beneath the artificial hill outside. It was going to rain.
"It's going to rain. The fire should be put out by now." Ji Feiyu murmured to herself.
As soon as she finished speaking, a torrential rain poured down, creating a mist of rain that washed over the small courtyard. Ji Feiyu felt a bit sad. She wanted to get up and take a look at the rain, but as soon as she stood up and took two steps, her vision went black and she lost consciousness.
